2019 Song For Hope "This Land is Your Land" Marathon

History: In the past few years literally hundreds of musicians and singers, from beginner to pro, have joined in the song circle in front of Horizon Books. The first 3 years, we played AROUND THE CLOCK/NIGHT AND DAY/RAIN OR SHINE for 72 hours. And, we sang just one song- "This Land is Your Land" over and over and over in every conceivable form, time signature and key. Musicians would come and go and the song adopted the personalities of whoever was playing it at the time.... It was a blast and a lifelong memory for many.

Purpose: We are raising awareness and money for the work of Buckets of Rain. BoR grows and provides free, fresh vegetables to the homeless and hungry in Detroit/Highland Park and here in Northern Michigan as well.

This Year: We don't go around the clock anymore, but we still sing just"This Land...". The song circle -usually containing 2 to 6 singers- will be in front of Horizon Books in Traverse City the following hours:

Thursday, Aug 8 from 10 am to 9 pm

Friday, Aug 9 from 10 am until Friday Night Live starts about 5pm.

Saturday Aug 10 from 10 am until the grand finale at 9 pm.

The Need: We need about 100 people to participate at various times during the song marathon. All skill levels from zero to legendary are welcome. "Sign up" (aka, let someone know you're coming!) for a period of time and join whoever happens to be there or bring you friends. We'll have the words posted so nobody has to memorize anything! Come and go as often as you please, stay as long as you like. This is a song circle, kinda like sittin' round a campfire.... not a performance.... we just want to have fun, engage the passers-by to join in... and watch the guitar case fill up with donations!

To let us know that you are ready to sing and when you are showing up emai l: or text 231 883 7213

Quicken Loans Community Challenge 2019

On August 1, our Community Challenge page will go 'live' and the contest will be on!

This year we're trying to raise 60,000 dollars to keep our food security programs for the hungry and homeless forging ahead.

So, what is the Quicken Loans Community Challenge- Detroit?

· A Fundraising competition between local charities

· Quicken loans grants $100,000 in various ways during this challenge to the 5 charities which raise the most money.

Why is this important???

Last year Buckets of Rain finished in 6th place... by, at one point, a dollar! Yikes!

Not to worry, all organizations retain the money they raise, and last year you all helped us pull in $36,000 !!! You’re all amazing!

Please help us reach our goal to raise $60,000 dollars, or more, this year by:

· Spreading the word to focus donations in August, as each dollar could be worth twice as much then!

· Make sure you donate through the Quicken loans Challenge link, which we will provide! (Checks and cash donations are awesome, but do not count during this period. Thanks so much)

"Quicken Loans Team Members have again chosen Buckets of Rain as one of the most impactful organizations that serve the Detroit community. And, because of the work that you do and how influential you are, we want to personally invite you to participate in the 2019 Quicken Loans Community Challenge Detroit."

Quicken Loans Community Challenge Detroit 2018

We're really excited to let you know that we've been selected to participate in the Quicken Loans Community Challenge 2018.  It's a friendly fundraising campaign launched by Quicken where “Detroit’s most impactful” community organizations compete to raise the most money with the top teams winning cash donations.   It’s a top tier list of charities that Quicken has identified as doing the most good for the people of Detroit- and Buckets of Rain is on it!

It runs the entire month of August and over $100,000 will be given away.  We're combining the Challenge with our 6th Annual Song For Hope (Aug 16-18) to raise as much money as we can and  win the $25,000 grand prize donation.

Song for Hope

The 2017 Song for Hope Fundraiser is scheduled for August 17-20 – once again, we take over Downtown Traverse City in front of Horizon Books to play music and raise money and awareness for Buckets of Rain. This year we will feature local artists performing their music, their way. Come on down and bring your friends!

The 5th Annual fundraiser is going to be a lot different and even more fun this year!  Instead of setting another world record (75 hours of “This Land is Your Land…”), we are inviting you to come on down for an hour and perform YOUR favorite music at our venue in downtown Traverse City. Please reserve your one-hour time slot here: ON-LINE SIGNUP

SONG FOR HOPE is the official website to find out more about the event, like who else is performing, what cool prizes are available for the performers, and the place to find some simple promo stuff to help you promote your involvement in the event.
